College Basketball Roundup: No. 16 Louisville rallies, edges Cincinnati, 67-62
Cardinals coach collects 200th win

Angel McCoughtry scored 23 of her 25 points in the second half and No. 16 Louisville rallied to a 67-62 victory against visiting Cincinnati last night in the Big East opener for both teams.

McCoughtry, who also had a career-high 18 rebounds, scored eight points in a 16-4 run over seven minutes that put Louisville (10-0) ahead 66-62 with 1:40 to play.

Cincinnati (7-2) went on a 17-7 run with 11:40 left in the first half to take a 33-19 lead. Shelly Bellman scored five of her team-leading 16 points in the spurt. The Bearcats led 42-35 at halftime.

The Bearcats built a 53-41 lead in the second half when Bellman made a 3-pointer with 13:27 left. McCoughtry scored all of Louisville's points in a 9-2 run that pulled the Cardinals to within 55-50.

McCoughtry helped Louisville outrebound Cincinnati, 53-44. She finished 7 of 20 from the field, including 2 of 4 from 3-point range, and was 9 of 10 from the free-throw line.

Katie Olson added 12 points for Louisville, and Yuliya Tokova scored 10. Toni Slaughter, a transfer from Cincinnati, had eight points and 10 rebounds.

Treasure Humphries scored 13 points for Cincinnati, all in the first half, and Michelle Jones added 10.

Cincinnati was 16 of 39 from the field in the first half, but only 7 of 35, including 2 of 14 3-pointers, in the second half, to finish 23 of 71 (32.4 percent).

Louisville was 24 of 65 from the field (36.9 percent), but had 17 turnovers and was just 3 of 15 from 3-point range.

The win gave Louisville coach Tom Collen his 200th career victory. He is 200-61 overall, including 73-29 at Louisville, where he is in his fourth season.

District highlights

Waynesburg (5-2) got 24 points from Jeff Linden and 15 from Tim Drakeley in an 83-69 victory against visiting La Roche (2-8). Adam Kostewicz has 21 points and 11 rebounds for La Roche, which made just 37.9 percent (25 of 66) of its field-goal attempts. ... Kevin Scott scored 34 points in leading Butler County Community College (4-4) to a 93-82 home win against visiting CCAC-South Campus (0-7). Skyler Burke had 23 points for CCAC-South.
