College Basketball roundup: Mississippi State rips Miami, 70-52

Freshman reserve guard Barry Stewart scored a career-high 22 points to lead Mississippi State to a 70-52 victory against host Miami.

Stewart hit five of Mississippi State's 10 3-pointers as the Bulldogs (6-2) won on the road for the first time this season. Richard Delk added 14 points for Mississippi State and Jamont Gordon had 12 points, 8 assists and 6 rebounds.

Jack McClinton had 16 points for Miami (6-4) to end his streak of 20-point games at seven. Dwayne Collins had 14 points, 6 rebounds and 5 blocks for the Hurricanes.

Mississippi State never trailed in the game and led, 39-22, at halftime. Miami trimmed its deficit to six points with 13 minutes left but Mississippi State went on a 12-2 run.

The loss was Miami's largest at home since March 1997, when they were beaten, 82-54, by West Virginia.

District men

Ryan Gerber had a career-high 23 points as visiting Grove City (3-4) defeated Kenyon (5-5), 76-70, in a non-conference game. Gerber made 9 of 13 field goals, including 3 of 5 3-pointers. ... Westminster evened its record at 4-4 with its third win in a row after a 73-55 victory against visiting Penn State Behrend. Dom Joseph and Chauncy Whitlow each had 12 points for Westminster. ... Justin Hamilton had a game-high 22 points as Penn State McKeesport defeated Penn State Fayette, 73-59.
