A former school superintendent was ordered to stand trial on charges that he stole about $20,000 worth of school equipment and sold it on eBay.
Tom Maciulewicz, who resigned from the Millcreek School District amid the allegations in September, waived a preliminary hearing last week on 13 counts of theft. He was also accused of using a district credit card to buy about $5,000 worth of items, mainly gift cards.
His attorney, William Scarpitti, said his client committed the thefts because he needed money. While Mr. Scarpitti would not say why the money was needed, he said it was not related to drugs, alcohol or gambling.
Mr. Maciulewicz was sorry and cooperated with authorities, Mr. Scarpitti said.
The investigation started when a music-store owner noticed an eBay user selling synthesizers similar to those the district reported stolen.
