An Irwin man has been charged in federal court with conspiracy as part of a gambling ring that authorities believe to have been operated by video poker kingpin John "Duffy" Conley.
Elias Hanna, 28, is accused of participating in a sports betting operation with a person known as "JC" -- believed to be Mr. Conley -- from November 2005 to January 2006.
The government says the gambling operation was active for more than 30 days and had revenue on some days of more than $2,000. Mr. Hanna is accused of recruiting bettors for "JC," accepting bets and having communications with "JC," on a regular basis.
Mr. Conley was sent back to prison for four more years in May for violating his supervised release.
