Community College of Allegheny County's automotive program will receive $20,000 in equipment from Raytheon Co. for General Motor vehicles, and more than $11,000 worth of Integrated Diagnostic System equipment from Ford Motor Co. The automotive program prepares students to service and repair today's high-tech automobiles. This two-year apprenticeship training leads to an associate's degree in automotive technology. This diagnostic equipment along with the updated curriculum will assist CCAC students in becoming quality technicians for GM, Ford, Lincoln and Mercury dealerships.
Contracts
Burns & Scalo Roofing landed a roofing contract for Kyowa America, Waynesburg, Greene County. The project includes removal of the existing roof and installation of a new one. .Burns & Scalo installed the original roof in 1985.
The Bent Metal Group, a newly formed professional sales agency with offices in Pittsburgh and Baltimore, has been selected as the lead sales agency for Mesker Door Inc. and Design Hardware in the Mid-Atlantic Region. -- northern Ohio; western, central and northeastern Pennsylvania; Maryland and Northern Virginia; Delaware; New York; and New Jersey. Pittsburgh natives, Gary Ausefski and Kevin Koerner will be solely responsible for sales in the region.
Avalotis selected Kolbrener Inc. to produce marketing collateral. The centerpiece of this engagement will be a saddle-stitched capabilities brochure to help the established construction applications firm enhance its sales efforts.
LarsonO'Brien Advertising, Public Relations and Interactive was selected to develop eLearning course content and programming for Mylan Pharmaceuticals, Morgantown, W.Va. The focus of the courses will be on Mylan's commitment to quality and will be implemented as part of the expansion of Mylan's Morgantown manufacturing facilities.
Grants/loans
The Woodlands Foundation was awarded a $400,000 state grant through the office of Sen. Jane Clare Orie, R-McCandless, marking the launch of the organization's $5 million capital campaign. The state funds will be used for construction of two buildings at the Woodlands totaling $2 million: A 3,310-square-foot Wellness and Fitness Center providing wellness/fitness programs for participants with disability and chronic conditions such as arthritis, diabetes, cardiovascular disease and obesity. The center will include adaptive exercise equipment, locker rooms and showers; and a 4,552-square-foot Multi-purpose Administrative and Program Facility with space for programming and shared services with other nonprofit organizations with similar missions.
Awards/Honors
Willa M. Doswell, Ph.D., associate professor in the department of health promotion and development at the School of Nursing, University of Pittsburgh has been selected to serve as a member of the National Institutes of Health's Nursing Science: Children and Families Study Section, Center for Scientific Review. As a member of the study section, Dr. Doswell, who will serve a four-year term, may review grant applications submitted to the NIH, make recommendations on those applications and conduct general reviews on the status of research in the section's field of specialty. She was selected based on NIH criteria that included the quality of her research accomplishments, publications in scientific journals and other significant scientific activities, achievements and honors.
Bayer MaterialScience announced that Exatec has received the Frost & Sullivan 2006 Award for Technology Innovation in the field of automotive glazing for its successful innovations in polycarbonate glazing.
Graphic Design usa recently presented Kolbrener Inc. with seven 2006 American Graphic Design Awards for excellence in communication and graphic design. Kolbrener was honored for the following: Arch Coal, 2005 Annual Report; Pressley Ridge, 2006 President's Report; University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Forefront Newsletter Design; MEMS Industry Group, Capabilities Brochure; PureSafety, Capabilities Brochure; Holy Family Institute, Brochure; Four Winds Gallery, Inner Visions Gallery Opening. Two projects designed by Bradley Brown Design Group were winners in the 2006 American Graphic Design Awards competition. The Highmark Inc. 2005 Annual Report and a corporate identity for Pittsburgh-based Performance Drivers were both selected as winners. The annual competition is judged by a nationwide panel of judges and is sponsored by Graphic Design usa magazine. An awards annual will be distributed in early 2007.
The Pittsburgh office of Euro RSCG Magnet received the 2006 Bronze Anvil Award, sponsored by the Public Relations Society of America, in two categories. Winners of the award, which recognizes creative tactics in a public relations campaign, were recognized during the 2006 Silver Anvil Awards held in June in New York City. Magnet received this recognition for strategic tactics developed for longtime client Transitions Optical Inc. In the "Media Relations: Business-to-Business" category, Magnet took home the award for its "Advancing Transitions' Leadership" campaign; in the "Speeches" category, Magnet won for its "Advancing Transitions V" speech. This is the fourth consecutive year that Magnet's work for Transitions has been recognized at the national level.
Best Lawyers in America recognized Mark E. Freedlander, Alan B. Gordon, Leonard J. Marsico and Robert G. Sable, partners in the Pittsburgh office of McGuireWoods, in its 2007 edition.
Louis P. Stanasolovich, CFP , CEO, President, and founder, Legend Financial Advisors Inc., was named one of the "Best Financial Advisors in the United States" by The Best of the U.S. LLC.
Eckert Seamans Cherin & Mellott said the Allegheny County Bar Foundation Fellows Program will award an honorary, annual fellows membership in the name of Eckert Seamans' Special Counsel Edward G. O'Connor. The fellows program recognizes attorneys who have shown a commitment to excellence in charitable, community, professional and public service activities. Each Fellow pledges $1,000 which goes toward building the program's Foundation Endowment and awarding grants to civil legal services organizations.
Ohio Valley General Hospital said Tom Maidens, RN, a medical surgical services nurse, was Pittsburgh's Ohio Valley General Hospital's Cameos of Caring award recipient.
