Peabody graduate Jarrett Highsmith was an honorable mention selection on the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference football all-stars.
Highsmith, a sophomore defensive lineman at Seton Hill College, led the Griffins and was third in the WVIAC in sacks with 9. He added 67 tackles, including 14 tackles for loss.
Fairmont's Knight honored
Gateway graduate Kyle Knight, a sophomore offensive lineman at Fairmont State in West Virginia, was an honorable mention selection on the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference football all-star team.
His teammate, Greensburg Central Catholic graduate John Rahl, a sophomore quarterback, was a WVIAC honorable mention selection.
CMU soccer accolades
Thomas Jefferson graduate Jonathan Browne was named to the first team of the University Athletic Association men's soccer all-star team for the third consecutive year.
Browne, a senior at Carnegie Mellon, led the team with 13 goals, six coming in postseason ECAC action. Browne was also named to the honorable mention team while earning UAA Rookie of the Year honors in 2003.
Browne's brother, Ryan, was an honorable mention selection, along with Peters Township graduate Jonathan Hall. Ryan Browne, a freshman midfielder, started his career with four goals and four assists, including two game winners. Hall, a defender, helped keep offenses at bay and limited opposing teams to 11 goals for the season.
Academic honors
Quaker Valley graduate Janette Schneider has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District team.
Schneider, a senior middle blocker at Robert Morris University, has a 3.91 grade point average as a communications major. Schneider has been a significant player for Robert Morris over all four of her years.
She is currently the all-time leader in assists with 260, while ranking fourth with 141 solo blocks. Her 982 career kills ranks her fifth on the all-time list and her .322 attack percentage places her in second place in that category.
Her name also appears many times in the RMU single-season record book. She has placed in the top 10 three consecutive years in hitting percentage and block assists, and holds the 10th best total for solo blocks with 41 during the 2003 campaign.
She's PSAC's top player
Pine-Richland graduate Sarah Brandon was voted Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division Athlete of the Year for women's volleyball for the third consecutive year.
A senior at Kutztown University, she was also named to the first team of the PSAC Eastern Division all-star team for the fourth straight year.
Brandon, a right-side hitter, led the league in kills with 4.39 per game and was among the top 10 with a .338 hitting percentage. She was fifth in the league with 1.30 blocks per game.
