KDKA reporter sued
Friday, December 01, 2006

A former security guard for a Beaver County school district has filed a lawsuit against KDKA and investigative reporter Marty Griffin, for defamation and invasion of privacy.

James A. Law Jr., who worked security for Rochester Area School District, contends that Mr. Griffin, in a report that aired on May 5, misrepresented his criminal history in claiming his felony convictions should have precluded him from his position.

Mr. Law claims that the report, which quoted Louis W. Gentile, a private investigator with the firm, Gentile, Meinert and Associates, included unsubstantiated and false statements.

According to the lawsuit, Mr. Gentile said it was "unconscionable" that Mr. Law was working as a security guard.

Both Mr. Gentile and his agency are named as defendants.

According to Beaver County court records, Mr. Law has previously been convicted of drug charges, simple assault and disorderly conduct. KDKA-TV general manager Chris Pike had no comment on the suit.
