College Basketball Notebook: Ohio State gives Matta new contract
Saturday, November 04, 2006

Thad Matta was rewarded for winning a Big Ten title and shepherding the Ohio State men's basketball program through an NCAA investigation with a new contract.

Matta, set to begin his third year with the Buckeyes, agreed to a new deal that runs through the 2014-15 season and will pay him almost $1.9 million this season and more than $2.6 million in the final year.

Matta was hired July 7, 2004, from Xavier to take over a month after Jim O'Brien was fired for violating NCAA rules by giving money to a recruit.

Kansas State

Former Ohio high school basketball star Bill Walker signed a financial aid agreement with Kansas State and will join the team next month.

Elsewhere

Former Oklahoma State basketball coach Eddie Sutton was taken to a Stillwater hospital yesterday morning after being found unresponsive in his car outside a convenience store.
