New this week

'Mission: Impossible: III' () : While Paramount's Sumner Redstone may be disavowing any knowledge of Tom Cruise, the sofa-hopping star's third go 'round with the "Mission: Impossible" movie franchise may be the best yet.

While it didn't meet box office expectations, the two-disc collector's edition DVD of "Mission: Impossible: III" ($39.99) will probably make up for it. There are even more stunts -- chases, building jumping and things blowing up -- than the first two with Tom terrific doing all his own stunts. That should satisfy the action fans.

But there's also a compelling plot with agent Ethan and his IMF team facing off against a psychotic arms dealer portrayed by Philip Seymour Hoffman.

Not only do they have to save a fellow agent (Keri Russell) but they keep the psycho from taking his revenge out on Ethan's wife (Michelle Monaghan). Laurence Fishburne and Billy Crudup are Ethan's superiors.

For fans of all the behind the scenes extras, the DVD provides a cornucopia of features. See how they did the stunts, get a look inside the IMF team (Ving Rhames, Maggie Q and Jonathan Rhys Meyers), the music for the film, a Movie Fone Unscripted interview between Cruise and director JJ. Abrams.

A feature on the launching of the "M: I: III" across the globe shows Cruise as at least one of the hardest working guys in showbiz as he attends four premieres for the film in NYC in one day.

"Keeping Up With the Steins" (): A highly entertaining, not-so-kosher comedy about a dysfunctional Jewish family and a boy who ends up using his bar mitzvah for the unlikely purpose of actually becoming a man and reconciling his elders.

Special: "It's a Wonderful Life: 60th Anniversary Edition"; "The Martin & Lewis Collection: Volume 1."

TV on DVD: "Ghost Whisperer," season 1; "The Hitchhiker, Vol. 3"; "The Kids in the Hall," season 5; "The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! Vol. 2"; "Tales From the Crypt," season 5; "The Tarzan Collection, Vol. 2."

Star ratings are based on the Post-Gazette reviews during theatrical release.
