Highlands High School graduate Ryan Valasek is continuing his assault on the Edinboro University football record books.
Valasek, a 5-foot-9, 175-pound senior, matched a career high with seven receptions, good for 142 yards, in Saturday's game against Slippery Rock. Edinboro dropped a 24-21 decision in overtime.
The fine performance marked the third 100-yard game of the season for Valasek, who has caught at least one pass in 24 consecutive games.
Valasek moved into third place in the Edinboro record book for career receiving yards with 1,990, and is tied for fifth in career receptions, with 115.
He has 47 receptions, tied for fourth and just six shy of the season record, for 757 yards, a figure which ranks eighth.
She's a hit at Allegheny
Pine-Richland High School graduate Cally Malone, who recently completed her sophomore season with the Allegheny College women's volleyball team, played in all 31 of the team's matches and ranked fourth on the team with 180 kills, a kill percentage of .169.
A 5-7 outside hitter, Malone also contributed 44 blocks.
Running with Presidents
Washington & Jefferson's Bobby Regan, another Pine-Richland alumnus, earned first-team Presidents' Athletic Conference honors by placing fourth in the PAC cross country championships.
Regan posted a time of 28:37 in the 8-kilometer race.
Putting up his Dukes
Chartiers Valley High School graduate Travis MacKenzie, a three-year starter on Duquesne University's men's soccer team, leads the Dukes with six goals and eight assists for 20 points.
MacKenzie, a junior midfielder, scored his most recent goal on Sunday in the Dukes 1-0 win over Massachussets in their regular-season finale. The Dukes take an 11-6-1 record into the Atlantic 10 tournament.
MacKenzie broke into Duquesne's starting lineup as a freshman and started in 14 of 20 games, scoring five goals and one assist, and was named to the Atlantic 10 Conference all-rookie team.
