Yesterday's Zombie Walk at Monroeville Mall attracted 894 people to try to enter the Guinness Book of World Records for the largest-ever zombie gathering.
Monroeville police Chief George Polnar and Mindy Suhoza, mall marketing manager, acted as official observers. Event co-organizer Mark Menold, producer and host of "The It's Alive Show" on WBGN, said to gain world record recognition two people with community standing must document the event. The officials were joined by a others making video and still photos of the event.
The mall was the scene of a zombie rampage in George Romero's 1978 film "Dawn of the Dead."
Zombie Walk participants brought along enough food to fill 57 boxes for the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.
