Mr. Kasunic has served 12 years in the Senate and before that, 12 years in the state House. He served in the Pennsylvania National Guard from 1970 to 1976. Mr. Kasunic voted against the legislative pay raise and refused to accept the money. He voted in favor of legalizing slot-machine gambling in Pennsylvania.
Mr. Gallo has owned and operated Gas Mart Oil Co., a home heating company, for 25 years. He favors replacing property taxes with a higher sales tax and taxpayer referenda on any state or local tax increases. He says the state should operate the slot machine casinos rather than having two-thirds of the revenue pass to the private companies that are in line to get the casino licenses.

Joseph Murphy, 37, Oakmont
Mr. Ferlo has been a member of the state Senate since 2003. Before that he served in Pittsburgh City Council, including two terms as president. He voted against the legislative pay raise and has been a vocal supporter of reform, including reducing the size of the Legislature and a constitutional convention.
Mr. Murphy works for a Christian bookseller and distributor. He is against abortion (Mr. Ferlo favors legal abortion), and doesn't support a statewide smoking ban (Mr. Ferlo is a sponsor). Mr. Murphy believes public transit should largely be privatized.
