High school referee guilty in child porn case
Wednesday, October 25, 2006

A former high school referee pleaded guilty to receiving child pornography and a weapons charge.

Harold Stancliffe, 59, of Verona, was initially charged last October after a Greensburg police officer investigating the distribution of child pornography over the Internet contacted Mr. Stancliffe, who allegedly shared movies with the officer. Authorities said Mr. Stancliffe was also found with a handgun, which he was prohibited from owning because of previous robbery and insurance fraud convictions.

Local charges were dropped when federal charges were announced. Mr. Stancliffe pleaded guilty yesterday in U.S. District Court.

Mr. Stancliffe had worked for about a decade at several dozen schools in Westmoreland County and Pittsburgh's eastern suburbs as a baseball, football and basketball official, according to the Westmoreland Basketball Officials Association.
