Carnegie Mellon does what it does best -- run the football -- to stay unbeaten and move closer to an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III playoffs.

Robert Gimson carried 11 times for 148 yards and two touchdowns and Travis Sivek ran for 97 yards to lead the Tartans (7-0) to a 27-0 victory against the University of Chicago in a University Athletic Association game at Gesling Stadium yesterday.

Gimson scored on runs of 14 and 90 yards and sophomore quarterback Doug Facemeyer, filling in for injured Kevin Mulkern, passed for 149 yards and touchdowns of 2 yards to Colby Whitman and 41 yards to Jeremy Doo.

CMU, which led, 12-0, at halftime and after three quarters, rushed for 272 yards to nearly match its season average. Chicago (2-4) came into the game allowing 80.4 yards rushing per game and hadn't allowed anyone to run for 100 or more yards in a game.

Waynesburg 34, Thiel 24: Ryan Abels rushed for 103 yards and touchdowns of 1 and 2 yards and Tres Cobb completed 14 of 18 passes for 162 yards and a touchdown as the Yellow Jackets (4-3, 4-0) won their fourth in a row and remained in first place in the Presidents' Athletic Conference. For Thiel (4-4, 3-2), Billy Blankenship passed for 237 yards and three touchdowns.

Washington & Jefferson 52, Grove City 18: Ryan Mendel rushed for 130 yards and five touchdowns and Bobby Swallow passed for 200 yards and two touchdowns as the host Presidents (6-1, 3-0) defeated the Wolverines (1-6, 1-5) in the PAC for their sixth consecutive win.

Westminster 49, Bethany 13: Kevin Franz passed for 212 yards and two touchdowns to lead the host Titans (2-5, 1-3) past the Bison (3-4, 1-3) in the PAC.

IUP 20, Shippensburg 16: IUP (6-1, 4-0) kept alive its Division II playoff hopes as Kareem Dutrieille scored on a 2-yard run midway through the fourth quarter to lift the visiting Indians over the Red Raiders (4-4, 2-1) in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West Division. IUP's Chris Morgan rushed for 106 yards and a touchdown and Kevin Weidl completed 11 of 24 passes for 148 yards and a touchdown.

Slippery Rock 35, Lock Haven 0: Nate Crookshank passed for 171 yards and two touchdowns and Travis Sarver rushed for 98 yards and a touchdown as the Rock (5-3, 3-2) defeated the visiting Bald Eagles (1-7, 0-4) in the PSAC West.

Urbana 33, Seton Hill 7: For visiting Seton Hill, Garyn Ehrlich completed 9 of 26 passes for 103 yards and a touchdown.

Wooster 27, Allegheny 21: Shaun Swearingen caught a 43-yard touchdown pass on the last play of the game to snap a 21-21 tie and lift the Scots (6-1, 3-1) past the visiting Gators (4-3, 2-2) in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Allegheny quarterback Jimmy Savage passed for 224 yards and a touchdown.

Geneva 36, Taylor 6: Justin Sciarro passed for 251 yards and two touchdowns to pace the host Golden Tornadoes (3-3).

Edinboro 13, Clarion 0: Houston Brown rushed for 157 yards and a touchdown to lead the Fighting Scots (4-4, 1-2) past the visiting Golden Eagles (1-7, 0-3).

California 41, Millersville 0: Joe Ruggiero passed for 282 yards and three touchdowns as the host Vulcans (6-2, 3-0) grabbed a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference win.

Albany 48, Saint Francis (Pa.) 0: The loss was the seventh in a row for the Red Flash (1-7).

Northern Iowa 31, Youngstown State 23: Marcus Mason rushed for 172 yards and three touchdowns for the host Penguins (6-2, 3-1) in the loss to UNI (5-2, 3-0).
