PAUL IN LEEDS

"Weird Paul: A Lo Fi Documentary," a delightful film chronicling the life and work of quirky Pittsburgh singer-songwriter Paul Petroskey, has been making the rounds of film festivals. The next stop is England for a European premiere at the Leeds International Film Festival on Nov. 4. Weird Paul will accompany Stacey Goldschmidt's film there with live performances.

HARDTRAVELIN' CD

"Hardtravelin 2006: the year in (missing) seven inches" is a new CD that collects previously released tracks from Flotilla Way, Aydin and [Bleeped]upmess. The release show is tonight at 7 at the Mr. Roboto Project in Wilkinsburg with Flotilla Way (indie-pop with harmonies), Aydin (shoe-gazing spacerock with accordion), and Smells Like Gina (riot-grrl inspired rock) filling in for the now-defunct hardcore band that ends with "mess." Admission is $5; $4 for members. Go to www.hardtravelin.net.

BUMPKIN RAP

It's not like country and rap have never met before (see Big & Rich, Everlast, Bubba Sparxx), but it's still a pretty rarefied event. So, if you care to see such a thing, don't miss the I-Like-Everything-But-Rap-and-Country Review, which pits country band The Four Roses and hip-hop group The Impossebulls at the Bloomfield Bridge Tavern at 9 p.m. with host Sharon "Mama" Spell. How will it go? Hard to say, considering that Virgil Rose of The Four Roses likes all sorts of music -- except for hip-hop. Says Rose: "I heard some fellers talkin' and pointing sideway while another fella was scrapin' the needle cross the old Victrola. Somebody said something 'bout hippety-hop and I told 'em that's about right, cuz a rabbit does that right before I unload both barrels on 'em." Anyone dressed as their favorite rap or country star will get a dollar off the $6 admission.

AIRIEL'S 'VISION'

Airiel Down, a band from Raleigh, N.C., that includes Pittsburgh native and drummer Taylor Traversari (son of Live Nation's Ed Traversari) passes through the city this weekend to play the great lawn at Heinz Field just before the 1 p.m. Steelers game on Sunday and then on Tuesday night at 10 at Diesel. The band, which recently released the CD "Vision," describes the sound as "energetic, ambient rock" and is in the midst of filming a DVD on the struggles of an independent band. MUSIC THERAPY

"Rhythms of Life," the Sonny Pugar Memorial Inc. Benefit Concert, is a concert in honor of the late Pittsburgh drummer benefiting music therapy within the Child Life Program at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. The lineup Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Sportsrock Cafe includes Azucar, Hermie Granati, the Hewlett/Anderson Band, Tony Janflone Jr., No Bad Juju, Billy Price, Shari Richards, Sputzy, and Jill West and the Blues Attack. Children's Child Life Department provides support, education and assistance to children, teens and their families who are adjusting to illness and hospitalization. Minimum donation is $20 at the door, and that includes a free light buffet as well as raffle items. It's at 1400 Smallman St. in the Strip. Call 412-552-1100.
