The Good, the Bad and the Beautiful
Barbra sings, Cher blings and Scarlett talks about HIV
Wednesday, October 11, 2006
Oooh, boy.

Sometimes even we wanna holler and throw up BOTH our hands, a la Marvin Gaye.

But we don't do it.

We soldier on to bring you this edition of the GBB.

It was all the way live at Barbra Streisand's triumphant return to Madison Square Garden Monday night.

The woman who put the capitol "D" in Diva had to verbally go upside a heckler's head when the guy apparently could not take a joke about President Bush.

Seems Barbra, in addition to singing her behind off, added a few anti-Bush skits to the show.

A few folks jeered a bit, but one somebody wouldn't let it go.

That's when Ms. Streisand decided enough is enough. She dropped an F-bomb on him, and everybody shut up after that.

We guess he finally realized what every self-respecting Barbra-phile already knows -- Ms. Streisand is not to be trifled with.

Since we're talking about timeless divas, let's tell you about Cher and all that stuff she auctioned off recently.

The 700 items that the one-name icon sold went for a total of $3.5 million, that's more than double the pre-sale estimates, according to Reuters.

Cher sold all kinds of things, but the costume that brought in the most money was a Bob-Mackie designed outfit that went for $60,000. Estimates had it going for $2,000 to $3,000.

And guess who bought it.

Remember Bobby Sherman, the '70s singer/actor/heartthrob, who appeared on the old "Sonny and Cher Show" once? No, he didn't buy it. His wife, Brigitte Poublon, did.

Go ahead, girl. We ain't mad at ya.

Anyway, Cher's going to give some of her newly gotten gains to charity and the rest she's going to use to redecorate her Malibu mansion.

See, when we plan to redecorate, we hold a garage sale and then take our earnings to Target.

OK, listen up all you red-blooded guys with a thing for Scarlett Johansson.

The "Black Dahlia" star tells Allure magazine, "Contrary to popular belief, I'm not promiscuous."

We don't know how that became popular belief, so don't ask us.

Anyway, the 21-year-old blond starlet said it's all happy, happy, joy, joy with her beau and co-star Josh Hartnett.

She describes him as, "A good boy. A great person."

Be that as it may, Scarlett, who's dated other guys before settling in with Josh, gets tested twice a year for HIV.

"One has to be socially aware," she said. "It's part of being a decent human, to be tested for STDs. It's just disgusting behavior when people don't. It's just so irresponsible."

Girl, you are so on point.

Let's skip over from curvy Scarlett to the skeletal Victoria Beckham, who looks awful naked.

No, we haven't seen her without her clothes. We're just reporting what she said.

The former Spice Girl has three sons with her soccer superstar hubby, David Beckham. She tells the Australian edition of Harper's Bazaar that having those babies and then losing the weight does not do a body good.

"I've got so much saggy skin on my stomach," Victoria said. Plus, she's got the dreaded "nobumatall" (no bum at all).

Her words, not ours.

But she's not letting that condition hold her back. She's been designing jeans and sunglasses and was seen hanging with Katie Holmes in Paris last week.

Still, she said after all the fame and tabloid infamy, she no longer craves the spotlight.

"I don't need to feed my ego that way anymore," she said.

That's fine, honey. But, please, feed yourself.

Now, you won't ever see Queen Latifah looking like death warmed over.

The Queen, who likes to promote female empowerment, is looking for five women to honor in the second annual Curvation Project Confidence Awards luncheon.

The women are folks who've helped others gain self-esteem, confidence, etc., through community programs, education and outreach.

If you know anybody like that, there's still time to nominate her. To do so, visit www.curvation.com or mail in a completed entry form, available by calling 1-800-787-6060 and for download on www.ywca.org. Entries must be postmarked by Nov. 3.

Finalists get a $3,000 grant for their program. The panel will choose one national award recipient who will be awarded an additional $10,000 grant to support her project or program. All finalists will be honored at a Curvation Project Confidence Awards luncheon in New York City, hosted by Queen Latifah, early next year.
