Chris Morgan has been honored by the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference for his fine play in Indiana University of Pennsylvania's 23-20 overtime win over Edinboro in last Saturday's Western Division opener.

Morgan, a Woodland Hills graduate, was named Western Division offensive player of the week for the second time in three weeks.

Morgan was selected after rushing for 116 yards and one touchdown on 24 carries against Edinboro.

Included in his 116-yard day was a 4-yard touchdown run that tied the game at 7-7 in the first quarter and a 25-yard scamper on a third-and-24 play that kept a long third quarter drive alive.

Morgan has rushed for more than 100 yards in all four games this season, including a school record 286 against East Stroudsburg, and 18 times in 22 games as the starting tailback dating back to the final two games of the 2003 campaign.

This season, he is averaging 170.8 yards per game and has scored eight touchdowns.

The former Wolverine stands in third place on the all-time IUP rushing chart with 3,182 yards.

P-T grad earns PAC soccer honor

Penn-Trafford graduate Andrew Saporito was named Presidents' Athletic Conference soccer player of the week after leading Westminster to a 2-1 record last week.

Saporito assisted on the lone goal in a 1-0 win over Saint Vincent, then scored the game-tying goal and assisted on the game-winning goal in a 2-1 overtime win at John Carroll.

Saporito leads the Titans in goals (four) and assists (five).

Kiski grad sparks Thiel

Kiski Area graduate Dan Hess rushed for a season-high 121 yards and two touchdowns to lead Thiel College to a convincing 49-7 win over Bethany on Saturday.

Hess scored his first touchdown of the afternoon with 10:41 to play in the first half after breaking a 63-yard run down the sideline to give Thiel a 23-0 advantage.

Hess recorded his second score with 6:53 remaining in the fourth quarter on a 1-yard run.
