Thursday, October 05, 2006

Saint Francis University receivers Michael Caputo and Luke Palko, both seniors, broke the NCAA Division I-AA record for the most career passes caught by two players on the same team in Saturday's 45-13 loss to Robert Morris.

Caputo, a Bethel Park resident and a graduate of Seton-LaSalle High School, became the second receiver in Northeast Conference and Saint Francis history to reach 200 career receptions with five catches, increasing his career total to 203.

In five games this season, Caputo has caught 21 passes for 323 yards and three touchdowns.

Palko, a graduate of West Allegheny High School, ranks first in school and conference history with 223 receptions, despite catching only one pass against Robert Morris.

For the season, Palko, the brother of Pitt quarterback Tyler Palko and the son of West Allegheny coach Bob Palko, has caught 14 passes for 156 yards.

Caputo and Palko now have 426 combined receptions, which breaks the 20-year-old record formerly held by Texas Southern's Darrell Colbert and Donald Narcisse, who combined for 420 catches during their careers.

Also, Saint Francis senior quarterback Anthony Doria, another Seton-LaSalle graduate, became the Northeast Conference's all-time leading passer by throwing for 156 yards against Robert Morris.

Doria now has 7,350 career yards, passing former Robert Morris QB Tim Levcik, who threw for 7,222 career yards.

For the season, Doria has completed 54 of 117 passes for 677 yards and three touchdowns.
