A Pittsburgh Public Works employee who is a foreman on the "redd up" crew commissioned by the late Mayor Bob O'Connor, faces a hearing next month on drug trafficking charges.
Kurt R. Staudenmaier, 36, of the North Side, is charged with possession with intent to deliver prescription medication.
He was arrested on the evening of Sept. 21 by police at Ingham Street and Brighton Road after an officer noticed that he had been driving a car with no rear lights.
According to an affidavit that supports his arrest, Mr. Staudenmaier told the officer that he had 19 Vicodin pills that he sells for $5 each.
"If a friend needs some and they don't have any, I'll sell them just to help them out," Mr. Staudenmaier is quoted kin the affidavit as saying.
Mr. Staudenmaier has worked for the city's Public Works Department for 17 years. Last spring he was appointed as a foreman on Mayor O'Connor's "redd up" crew.
The workers' assignment is to clean up abandoned and blighted properties in the city.
A preliminary hearing on the charges is scheduled at 12:30 p.m. Nov. 8 in Municipal Court.
He is free on $200 bond, pending the hearing.
