Special events

Monongahela Valley Hospital is sponsoring a tour of its Women's Health Center at its Mon-Vale HealthPLEX from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Oct. 12. Featured guest is Emily Wills, Miss Pennsylvania. Refreshments are being served. For more information, call 724-379-1900.

Charity events

Triple B Farms, 823 Berry Lane Road, Forward, Allegheny County, is sponsoring a pumpkin festival throughout the month of October. Festivities include hayrides, the Big Blue Boo Barn, a slide tube, farm animals, children's activities and more. Hours are 4 to 7 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The UpStreet Center for Women, Suite D, 2008 Murray Ave., Squirrel Hill, is hosting an introductory session for its roundtable discussion on body image and self-esteem, "If It Were Not For My Body, I Might Be Okay," from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Oct. 11. Subsequent meetings take place every second Wednesday of the month. The cost for the first session is $20, which must be paid in advance and may be applied to the total package of $110. Research

The Department of Physical Therapy of the University of Pittsburgh's School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences is sponsoring a six-week study examining the effects of exercise on knee osteoarthritis. Subjects should be over 40, diagnosed with osteoarthritis and be able to walk normally. Call 412-973-3342.
