The Pirates stood and applauded a player after a game for the second consecutive Sunday. The week before it was San Diego's Trevor Hoffman who broke the record for saves. This time, though, the player was one of their own. Freddy Sanchez became the first Pirate to take the NL batting championship title since 1983.
