District Football Roundup: Malone throws down Geneva, 22-13

Malone College, led by Brad Reifsnyder's 264 yards passing and one touchdown, defeated visiting Geneva, 22-13, in a matchup of nationally ranked NAIA teams. Malone entered the game ranked No. 23, while Geneva was No. 15.

Geneva's Justin Sciarro completed 13 of 23 passes for 194 yards. He was intercepted four times and sacked once. Brandon Nathan rushed for a team-high 34 yards on 11 carries.

Geneva's Javon Moody scored on a 1-yard run and Michael Cobb ran 6 yards for a touchdown.

Walsh 23, Seton Hill 7: Visiting Walsh (5-0), ranked sixth in NAIA, capitalized on five turnovers in the first half to take a 20-0 lead at intermission en route to the victory against the Griffins (1-4). For Seton Hill, Antwarn Jones rushed for 72 yards on 17 carries and Garyn Ehrlich completed 11 of 21 passes for 105 yards and an 11-yard touchdown to Clayton Shaver. Ehrlich was intercepted three times and sacked four times.

Grove City 21, Westminster 20: Andrew DiDonato passed for 100 yards and touchdowns of 8 yards to Matt Weaver and 2 yards to Jay Yanak. He also ran 2 yards for a score to lead the host Wolverines (1-3, 1-2) over the Titans (1-3, 0-1) in the Presidents' Athletic Conference. Westminster scored on Kevin Franz' 5-yard pass to Brian Becker with 24 seconds remaining, but Fred Romeo's kick for the extra point to tie the score failed. The victory ended a 10-game losing streak against Westminster that dated to 1979.

Allegheny 23, Denison 6: Jimmy Savage completed 23 of 44 passes for 293 yards and two touchdowns and Mario Tarquinio (Charleroi) rushed for 97 yards on 24 carries as the visiting Gators (3-1, 1-0) defeated the Big Red (0-4, 0-1) in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Josh Whiteside (Upper St. Clair) kicked field goals of 23, 32 and 29 yards for Allegheny.

Waynesburg 23, Thomas More 16: Tres Cobb ran 1 yard for a touchdown and threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to Mike Shields to lead the host Yellow Jackets (2-3, 2-0) against the Saints (2-2, 1-2) in the PAC. Cobb completed 7 of 11 passes for 70 yards and Eric Daniels rushed for 78 yards on 15 carries.

Tiffin 15, Gannon 3: The visiting Golden Knights (0-5) scored first to take a 3-0 lead on Brendan McNicholas' 33-yard field goal in the second quarter, but Tiffin (6-0) rallied on Andrew Breen's 20-yard field goal, Alvin McKnight's 21-yard touchdown pass to Don Johnson and Johnson's 13-yard pass to Cody Koselke. For Gannon, Brad Hammond rushed for 56 yards on 19 carries and Matt Butler completed 7 of 12 passes for 71 yards.

Thiel 49, Bethany 7: Dan Hess rushed for 121 yards and touchdowns of 1 and 63 yards and Steve Minton twice ran 5 yards for scores to lead the visiting Tomcats (3-2, 2-0) against the Bison (2-2, 0-1) in the PAC.

Ashland 24, Mercyhurst 21: Mercyhurst's Mitch Phillis completed 22 of 36 passes for 246 yards and three touchdowns, but the visiting Lakers (1-4, 1-4) lost to Ashland (2-3, 2-3) in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Ashland scored the winning points on Ryan Jung's 21-yard field goal midway through the fourth quarter.

Concord 10, W. Va. Wesleyan 7: Zach Boyd's 30-yard field goal in overtime lifted visiting Concord (3-2, 3-0) over West Virginia Wesleyan (2-3, 1-2).
