With sole possession of first place in the Eastern Conference on the line, host Clairton rallied from an early 14-point deficit to defeat Springdale, 29-20.

Clairton (5-0, 3-0), ranked No. 2 in Class A by the Post-Gazette, was led by the running of Zaire Washington, who ran for 166 yards on 23 carries and scored two touchdowns.

With Springdale (2-3, 2-1) leading, 17-15, in the second quarter, Bears quarterback Leroy George found Kevin Weatherspoon for a 38-yard touchdown strike, giving Clairton a 21-17 lead it wouldn't relinquish.

Nathan Zurisko rushed for 127 yards, scored a touchdown, and kicked two field goals for the Dynamos.

OTHER GAMES

Rochester 43, North Catholic 0

The top-ranked Rams (5-0, 2-0) returned two interceptions for touchdowns and rolled past the Trojans (3-2, 2-1) in Big Seven Conference play.

Star senior Derek Moye scored on one of those returns -- from 52 yards -- and added a 47-yard touchdown run. Aaron Jackson returned the other interception 48 yards for a score.

Fort Cherry 41, Avella 6

Rangers running back Jordan Clemons ran for 201 yards and four touchdowns -- giving him a Class A-leading 15 this season -- as he led Fort Cherry (3-2, 2-1) to a Black Hills Conference triumph against the Eagles (1-4, 0-2).

Beth-Center 20, Frazier 8

C.J. Jackson ran for two touchdowns, covering 35 and 17 yards, as the No. 3 Bulldogs (5-0, 2-0) held on for a road win in the Black Hills.

Joe Kulkowski was 12 of 20 for 107 yards, including an 8-yard touchdown to Tim Holt, for Frazier (1-4, 0-3).

Serra 42, Bentworth 7

Quarterback Marc Rozanski had another big night, steering the fifth-ranked Eagles (5-0, 3-0) to a Black Hills Conference victory against the Bearcats (2-3, 1-2).

Rozanski ran for 137 yards and two touchdowns, and added 104 yards and two touchdowns through the air.

Duquesne 48, Apollo-Ridge 8

Sophomore running back Monte Ashby ran for 164 yards and two touchdowns, as the No. 4 Dukes (4-1, 1-2) rebounded from their first loss with a resounding Eastern Conference win agaimst the Vikings (0-5, 0-2).

Bishop Canevin 35, Western Beaver 15

Matt Walter rushed for 106 yards and scored three touchdowns, leading the host Crusaders (3-2, 2-0) past the Golden Beavers (2-3, 1-2) in the Big Seven Conference. Canevin's Dan Gustine completed 14 of 17 for 182 yards and two touchdowns, and ran for another score.

Riverview 29, Leechburg 6

Sid Facaros ran for 101 yards, pacing the Raiders (4-1, 2-0) to an Eastern Conference victory over the Blue Devils (1-4, 0-3). Facaros opened the scoring with a 68-yard interception return, and later scored on a 27-yard run.

Leechburg quarterback T.J. Phillips passed for 125 yards, and tossed a 38-yard scoring strike to Sheldon Loughner, who caught five passes for 79 yards.

Monessen 35, Chartiers-Houston 0

Behind Cordero Jackson's 129 yards rushing and one touchdown, the Greyhounds (3-2) won their third straight, rolling past the Buccaneers (3-2) in a non-conference game. Monessen took a 21-0 halftime lead.

Monaca 21, Avonworth 20

Mike Grant scored on a 5-yard run -- and added the game-winning extra point -- with 2:34 left in the game, giving the Indians (3-2, 2-1) a come-from-behind Big Seven Conference win against the Antelopes (2-3, 0-3).

Mapletown 36, West Greene 0

Led by Nick Popernack's 128 yards rushing and three touchdowns, the Maples (4-1, 2-0) defeated the Pioneers (2-3, 1-2) in the Tri-County South Conference.

Popernack scored on runs of 66, 4 and 11 yards.
