Brentwood proved its win a week ago against then-No. 3-ranked Seton-LaSalle was no fluke last night with a 27-20 victory against visiting Steel Valley in the Century Conference.

Steve Sikora scored the winning touchdown with 1:31 left on a 1-yard run for the Spartans, who are ranked No. 5 in the WPIAL by the Post-Gazette. Da'Von Moore set up the score with a 90-yard kickoff return.

Sikoa also scored on a 69-yard run and a 6-yard pass from Eric Coxon.

Steel Valley (3-2, 2-2) had tied the score on a 55-yard run by Marcus Pollard and Zak Campbell's extra point. Pollard carried 13 times for 188 yards for the Ironmen.

The Ironmen fumbled the ball eight times and did not complete a pass.

OTHER GAMES

Ford City 42, Northgate 0

No. 4-ranked Ford City (4-1, 4-0) rushed for 333 yards and had 406 yards of total offense in an Allegheny Conference win at Northgate (3-2, 3-2). Derek Bush scored on a 9-yard run and 24-yard pass for Ford City.

Burrell 16, Freeport 6

Tyler Reifschneider returned a fumble 36 yards for a touchdown in helping Burrell (3-2, 3-1) to an Allegheny Conference win at Freeport (3-2, 3-2). Freeport fumbled the ball away twice and threw three interceptions.

South Fayette 17, Carlynton 13

The Lions remained undefeated in the Century Conference with the victory at Honus Wagner Field in Carnegie. Quarterback Jon Taglianetti completed 4 of 9 passes for 102 yards and a score for South Fayette (4-1, 4-0). Deon Summers rushed for 188 yards for Carlynton (1-4, 1-4) and completed 12 of 24 passes for 138 yards.

South Allegheny 30, Charleroi 21

South Allegheny (2-3, 2-3) came up with a 21-point second quarter in winning at Charleroi (2-3, 1-3) in the Century Conference. The Gladiators had two 100-yard rushers with Nick Czapor rushing 22 times for 149 yards and Rich White carrying 24 times for 137 yards.

Center 42, Beaver 13

After dropping the first game of the season to Sto-Rox, Center has come on to win four in a row. The Trojans spotted Beaver 13 points in the Midwestern Athletic Conference game at Gypsy Glen Stadium in Beaver and then came on strong. Maurice Carter rushed 21 times for Center (4-1, 4-1) for 135 yards and has 741 yards on the ground this season. He scored on runs of 3 and 5 yards. Manny Cutlip returned an interception 40 yards for a Beaver (3-2, 3-1) score. Cory Diamond caught five passes for 79 yards and a score for the Bobcats.

Aliquippa 43, Ellwood City 7

The Quips (5-0, 4-0), ranked No. 2 in the WPIAL and the PIAA by the Post-Gazette, had little trouble with visiting Ellwood City (1-4, 1-4) in the MAC. Daron Cox rushed 12 times for 157 yards and three scores and quarterback D'Mar Jeter was 6 for 10 for 131 yards.

Sto-Rox 27, Beaver Falls 20

Sto-Rox quarterback Jules Crosby completed 19 of 29 passes for 274 yards and four scores as the Vikings (4-1, 3-1) won this MAC game at Reeves Field in Beaver Falls (1-4, 1-4). Isiah Scott hauled in six passes for 108 yards for Sto-Rox. Todd Thomas rushed eight times for 110 yards for Beaver Falls and scored on an 83-yard run.

New Brighton 21, Quaker Valley 0

The Lions (3-2, 3-1) jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter and then held off Quaker Valley (1-4, 1-4) in a MAC contest at Chuck Knox Stadium in Leetsdale. New Brighton limited the Quakers to just 93 yards total offense.

Jeannette 24, McGuffey 8

Terrelle Pryor was too much for McGuffey (2-3, 1-3) as the Jayhawks (4-1, 4-1) downed the Highlanders in an Interstate Conference game at McKee Stadium in Jeannette. Pryor rushed 12 times for 209 yards and scored on runs of 75 and 65 yards.

Washington 67, Brownsville 7

Washington (2-3, 2-3) scored 27 points in the second quarter and added 20 more in the third in this Interstate Conference game against winless Brownsville. Alex Evans carried just 10 times for Washington but managed 137 yards.

Southmoreland 37, East Allegheny 26

Erik Frund carried 22 times for 129 yards and two scores in leading Southmoreland (2-3, 2-2) to the Interstate Conference win against visiting East Allegheny (1-4, 1-4). Chris Loving carried 20 times for 138 yards. Southmoreland quarterback Aaron Stashko was 8 for 11 for 142 yards

Mars 49, Cornell 14

Running back Bill Bair continued to roll, gaining 206 yards on 15 carries as Mars (4-1, 3-1) cruised to the Tri-County North win at Cornell's Frank Letteri Stadium. Bair, who scored four touchdowns, went over 1,000 yards rushing this season in the game and has 1,023. He now has 16 touchdowns. The Planets finished with 443 yards of total offense.

Laurel 40, Summit Academy 8

The Spartans (4-1, 4-1) took a half-game lead over Summit Academy (3-2, 3-1) with this home win in Tri-County North Conference action. Nate Weisenstein rushed 17 times for 134 yards for Laurel and quarterback Corey Collins was 10 of 23 passing for 168 yards.

Riverside 12, Neshannock 0

Visiting Riverside 4-1, 4-1) scored all of its points in this Tri-County North contest in the third quarter against Neshannock (0-5, 0-4).

Waynesburg 49, South Park 17

Defending WPIAL and PIAA champion South Park (3-2) lost for the second consecutive week and was limited to just 62 yards rushing at Waynesburg (3-2). Troy Cree paced Waynesburg in this non-conference game with 101 yards rushing on 11 carries and was 4 for 4 passing for 155 yards. Waynesburg rushed for 255 yards and finished with 474 yards of offense. South Park was held to 144 total yards.

Mohawk 13, Freedom 7

Travis Schubert scored on a 2-yard run on the second play of the fourth quarter to give Mohawk (4-1) a non-conference win at Freedom (0-5). The score was set up by a 19-yard pass from Seth Powell to Andrew Bukta on a fourth-and-5 play. Mohawk held Freedom to 77 yards of total offense and minus-5 yards rushing.

Kittanning 49, DuBois 12

Ryan Shepard rushed nine times for 151 yards and teammate Derek Taylor rushed nine times for 79 in leading Kittanning (4-1) to the non-league win at DuBois. The Wildcats scored 21 points in each of the first two quarters.
