NFL Notebook: Bengals linebacker suspended for season
Thursday, September 28, 2006
Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Odell Thurman, already banned for the first four games of 2006 for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy, was suspended yesterday for the rest of the season after his arrest on a charge of drunken driving.

Thurman was arrested about 3 a.m. Monday in Cincinnati, hours after the Bengals beat the Steelers, 28-20.

Police said Thurman's blood alcohol was 0.18 percent when he was arrested, more than twice the legal limit of 0.08 percent in Ohio. Thurman is due in court Oct. 2, the day his initial suspension for missing a drug test was to end.

Panthers

Linebacker Dan Morgan and tight end Mike Seidman won't play Sunday against New Orleans. Morgan hasn't played since sustaining the fifth concussion of his career in the season opener against Atlanta. Seidman's knee was hurt in a win against Tampa Bay Sunday.

Vikings

Minnesota signed quarterback Drew Henson to the practice squad, adding another arm while rookie Tarvaris Jackson recovers from injury. Henson, a former Michigan starter who spent three seasons playing professional baseball, signed an eight-year deal with Dallas in 2003 that included $3.5 million guaranteed, but he never got his NFL career going.

Chargers

Starting strong safety Terrence Kiel will miss the game at Baltimore Sunday after his arrest at team headquarters on felony drug charges. Drug Enforcement Administration officials said that Kiel admitted to shipping at least two parcels of prescription cough syrup to Texas. While Kiel did not tell the DEA his motive, the agency in Texas has found widespread abuse of codeine-based cough syrup mixed with soft drinks or drugs and referred to as "lean."

Bears

Defensive back Ricky Manning Jr. pleaded no contest to a felony assault charge stemming from an altercation with a man in a Los Angeles restaurant April 23, even though he said he didn't commit a crime. A civil suit was filed in May, and Manning faces possible punishment from the NFL.

Seahawks

League MVP Shaun Alexander asked for and got another round of CT scans on the previously diagnosed cracked bone in his left foot. Those tests confirmed the break in the fourth metatarsal. He remains out indefinitely.
