PG North: Deer Lakes graduate helping RMU's defense

Deer Lakes graduate Jeff Rommes played a big part in a record-breaking defensive effort by the Robert Morris football team in Saturday's 21-0 shutout of Rowan.

Rommes and his Colonial teammates held Rowan to minus 44 yards rushing and minus 19 yards in total offense, both school records,

Rommes, a 6-foot, 200-pound senior linebacker, led the Colonials with eight total tackles (two solo, six assists) and combined on a sack with teammate Ray Gensler, a Keystone Oaks graduate.

Rommes, a starter since his sophomore year, leads Robert Morris with 30 total tackles in four games (17 solo, 13 assists). Rommes has 169 career tackles (77 solo, 92).

North Hills grad sets it up

North Hills graduate Kim McKay is setting for the Bethany College women's volleyball team.

McKay, a 5-4 sophomore, has recorded 274 assists in 37 games, for a 7.41 average per game. She also has 19 kills and 16 serving aces.

Bethany is 4-7 overall.

NA grad is a Jewell for Cal

North Allegheny graduate Robert Jewell won medalist honors to lead California University of Pennsylvania to a men's golf team championship at the West Virginia Tech Tournament Sunday.

Jewell, a senior, posted even par in Saturday's first round, then played two-over-par Sunday for a two-day total of 146 to take top individual honors.

These twins are Plum good

Plum twins Ben and Matt Fecik are starters on the St. Vincent College men's soccer team as freshmen.

Ben Fecik is a forward/midfielder who leads the Bearcats (4-5-1) with four goals and a .222 shooting percentage. He also has two assists, which ties him for the team lead in points with 10.

Matt, a defenseman, ranks second on the team in minutes played with 810.

Both brothers were four-year starters at Plum.

Also, Norwin graduate Sean Molyneaux is among the goal scoring leaders for the Bearcats.

Molyneaux, a forward/midfielder, has scored three goals and has a .167 shooting percentage.

A 'killer' weekend at IUP

Greensburg Salem graduate Michelle Jones leads the Indiana University of Pennsylvania women's volleyball team in kills.

In 37 games, this 5-foot-10 senior outside hitter has recorded 133 kills for a 3.59 average per game.

IUP improved its record to 6-5 with victories over East Stroudsburg, Shippensburg and West Chester over the weekend.

Jones led the Indians with 42 kills in the three matches.
