Mario Manningham's second touchdown catch -- and fifth in the past two games -- put the sixth-ranked Wolverines (4-0, 1-0) ahead late in the third quarter and helped them overcome a sluggish start to beat visiting Wisconsin, 27-13, yesterday.
Michigan scored 17 consecutive points after it was 10-10 to finish strong, a week after its dominating victory at Notre Dame. After taking the lead twice in the first half, the Badgers (3-1, 0-1) struggled.
Wisconsin's P.J. Hill, who entered the game averaging a Big Ten Conference-best 138.3 yards rushing, was held to 54 yards on 20 carries against DivisionI-A's top-ranked run defense. The Wolverines also had four sacks.
Michigan's Chad Henne completed 18 of 25 passes for 211 yards and two touchdowns. He was intercepted three times. Manningham had seven catches for 113 yards and two touchdowns a week after catching three touchdown passes in the 47-21 win against the Irish.
Steve Breaston, a former Woodland Hills High School star who owns the Big Ten record for punt return yards, had three punt returns of 20-plus yards that led to 17 points and finished with a career-high 116 yards on nine punt returns.

Iowa 24, Illinois 7: Drew Tate passed for 190 yards and No. 14 Iowa (4-0, 1-0) scored three touchdowns late in the second quarter en route to a victory at Illinois (1-3, 0-1). Tate completed 17 of 27 passes to lead an offense that collected 344 yards. Damian Sims scored on a 1-yard run with just under six minutes left in the half after a short punt gave Iowa possession at the Illinois 31. Albert Young added a 6-yard run three minutes later. Tate then connected with Tony Moeaki for a 35-yard touchdown with 1:47 left in the half after Miguel Merrick intercepted Tim Brasic.
Purdue 27, Minnesota 21: Curtis Painter passed for 243 yards and two touchdowns as host Purdue (4-0, 1-0) defeated Minnesota (2-2, 0-1). Jaycen Taylor ran for 110 total yards and scored twice and Dustin Keller had six catches for 119 yards for the Boilermakers.
