A Good Samaritan acting on behalf of a woman who was being verbally assaulted was shot and killed early Saturday in the Hill District.
Tyrone Edwards, 23, of the Hill District, was shot in the head at about 1:44 a.m. He died at 5:02 p.m. at Mercy Hospital.
Cmdr. Thomas Stangrecki, of the Pittsburgh Major Crimes Squad, said Mr. Edwards was going about his business on Bentley Drive when he heard an argument between a man and a woman.
"There was some name-calling going on," he said. He said Mr. Edwards interceded and became involved in an argument with the male suspect, whom police are not identifying.
"The suspect walked away and then returned a minute later and started firing," said Cmdr. Stangrecki. Several shots were fired.
A passing motorist took Mr. Edwards to the hospital where he later died.
The commander said no arrests have been and no warrants issued. Police are asking anyone with information to call the homicide squad at 412-323-7161.
