Section play for boys' soccer is just getting into full swing this week and Center already owns an important victory.

The Trojans, ranked No. 3 in WPIAL Class AA by the Post-Gazette, edged previously unbeaten Elizabeth Forward, 1-0, last night in Section 3 at the Warriors' home stadium.

Center (4-0-1, 3-0) got its only goal from senior defender Bill Guntrum on a free kick with two minutes left in the first half.

It was Guntrum's fifth goal of the season. Sophomore goalkeeper Rob Scala recorded the shutout.

"We have a lot of games left, but it's good to get off to such a nice start," said coach Mark Perry in his first season at Center after coaching for many years at Fox Chapel.

"This was a big win for us," he said.

The Trojans play host to fifth-ranked Thomas Jefferson Saturday night.

The Jaguars (3-1-1, 2-0-1) downed West Allegheny, 7-0, in another Section 3 contest last night. Michael Pappas scored three goals for Thomas Jefferson.
