New Business/New Offices

Hefren-Tillotson Inc. announced the opening of its new office in the Centre City Tower, 650 Smithfield St., Suite 2330, Downtown.

Founded in 1948 and headquartered in Downtown Pittsburgh, Hefren-Tillotson is one of the oldest and largest privately held investment firms in Western Pennsylvania, with branch offices in Butler, Upper St. Clair and Wexford, and its new office in Centre City Tower. The Centre City office on the building's 23rd floor, will be the home for two key divisions of Hefren-Tillotson: H-T Asset Management, which provides a full-range of investment management services for high net worth individuals, pension plans, endowments and foundations, and H-T Corporate Services, which services the 401(k) and retirement plan market.

Foreman Group of Zelienople announced the creation of a new company, PerFOREMANce Roofing Specialists, a consulting firm that provides architectural, engineering and project management services for the analysis, design, and restoration of roofing systems used in nonresidential buildings.

Contracts

Lava New Media was awarded the contract to provide a Web site upgrade and some additional retooling for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Greater Pennsylvania & Southern West Virginia. The work will include developing an e-newsletter application, redesigning existing site architecture, and creating a custom content management system for easy editing of both the Web site and e-newsletter.

GatesmanMarmionDrake Advertising was awarded the Katahdin Cedar Logs Homes account and will provide a full range of marketing services, including research, advertising, public relations and interactive. It will be co-managed out of the firm's Pittsburgh and Portland, Maine offices.

Kolbrener Inc. said it has been hired by Andrew J. Sherman, a consultant, educator and writer on business growth, to help promote his company, Grow Fast Grow Right (GFGR).

Emerson Process Management said it received a contract to modernize the instrumentation and control systems for Unit 3 of the Karlshamn power plant in Sweden. The contract calls for the installation of Emerson's PlantWeb digital plant architecture with the Ovation expert control system. The contract was awarded by Karlshamn Kraft AB, a company within E.ON Nordic.

Dick Pacific, in a teaming agreement with global engineering and construction firm Fluor Corp., was awarded a $200 million global contingency contract-multiple award contract, known as GCC-MAC, for the Navy. The contract offers four additional one-year option periods. In total, the potential five-year contract could be worth up to $1 billion for the team. Under terms of the contract the company said it would provide contingency construction worldwide to support relief and rebuilding efforts in the wake of natural disasters, humanitarian efforts and other emergencies. In addition to construction services, the contract includes some base operations support services.

Awards/Honors

Douglas G. Smith, a partner in the Pittsburgh office of national labor and employment law firm Jackson Lewis, was named to the list of Top One Hundred Labor Attorneys in the United States for 2006, as compiled by Labor Relations Institute Inc.

Wayman, Irvin and McAuley said two senior partners were named Pennsylvania Super Lawyers by the Pennsylvania Super Lawyers magazine. Michael L. Magulick is a trial lawyer specializing in professional liability litigation with specific emphasis on defending lawyers, doctors, dentists, pharmacists and other health-care professionals. Mark J. Gesk is a trial lawyer specializing in construction, product liability, and transportation law.

The Pennsylvania Psychological Association awarded Seubert & Associates with the 2006 Psychologically Healthy Workplace Award. Seubert & Associates was selected because of its practices in all general areas that contribute to employee well-being.

Clifford A. Rieders, partner, Rieders, Travis, Humphrey, Harris, Waters & Waffenschmidt, was presented with the 2006 George F. Douglas Jr. Amicus Curiae Award at the Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association's annual convention. The award recognizes outstanding accomplishments in brief writing and oral argument before Pennsylvania's highest courts.
