Host Bloomsburg, ranked 13th in NCAA Division II, rallied for 21 points in the fourth quarter to beat No. 17 California, 24-19, yesterday in a matchup of the two highest-ranked teams in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference.
Bloomsburg (1-1) is favored to win the East Division championship, and California (1-1), which had its six-game win streak end, is the team to beat in the West.
California completed the scoring on Joe Ruggiero's 22-yard pass to Marc Huddleston. Ruggiero completed 20 of 31 passes for 176 yards and a touchdown. Brandon Lombardy rushed for 105 yards and touchdowns of 15 and 20 yards for California, and Steffan Brinson carried 15 times for 80 yards.
Bloomsburg All-American tailback Jamar Brittingham carried 24 times for 106 yards and a 5-yard touchdown.

IUP 33, Cheyney 6: Chris Morgan rushed for 136 yards and touchdowns of 1 and 22 yards and Kareem Dutrieuille ran for 91 yards and touchdowns of 1 and 6 yards as the visiting Indians (1-0) won their first game under Lou Tepper, the former coach at Edinboro. Kevin Weidl, who missed last season because he was suspended from school for disciplinary reasons, completed 14 of 25 passes for 167 yards.
Slippery Rock 27, Millersville 22: Nate Crookshank passed for 221 yards and four touchdowns as the visiting Rock (1-1) defeated Millersville (0-2). Luke Wetzel had touchdown receptions of 14, 52 and 33 yards, and Terry Grossetti had a 24-yard touchdown catch.
Bethany 42, Hiram 7: T.J. Parker caught two touchdown passes and ran for another and Taylor McNeil returned a kickoff 93 yards for a touchdown as the host Bison (1-1) ended a 10-game losing streak. .
Alfred 14, Thiel 0: After a scoreless first quarter, Thiel quarterback Billy Blankenship fumbled, and Alfred recovered at Thiel's 8. Two plays later, Alfred scored on Paul Keeley's 11-yard pass to tight end Matt Gibbins early in the second quarter. The Saxons (1-0) scored on their first possession of the second half, with Keeley throwing a 36-yard touchdown pass to Jared Manzer. Blankenship passed for 146 yards, but was sacked four times and intercepted twice.

Wooster 31, Waynesburg 10: Eric Daniels rushed for 62 yards and a 19-yard touchdown and Chris Smithley passed for 81 yards in the loss for the host Yellowjackets (1-1).
East Stroudsburg 45, Lock Haven 14: Evan Prall scored five touchdowns, four on passes from quarterback Jimmy Terwilliger, as host East Stroudsburg rolled to a lopsided win.
Kutztown 27, Clarion 10: Maurice Adams scored two touchdowns in a span of 42 seconds last night as host Kutztown (1-0) posted a victory against Clarion (0-2). The first touchdown came on a 2-yard run late in the first half, his other one on an 85-yard kickoff return to open the second half.
