District College Roundup: Losing streak reaches 6 for RMU

Dayton's Brandon Godsey scored on a 6-yard run with 1:37 to play to cap a second-half rally that carried the Flyers to a 21-14 victory against the visiting Robert Morris Colonials in a non-league game yesterday.

The loss was the sixth in a row for the Colonials dating to last season and tied the school record for the school's longest losing streak in the 13-year history of the program.

Robert Morris led, 14-0, at halftime on Erik Cwalinski's second-quarter touchdown passes of 16 yards to Jarvis Powers and 7 yards to Mario Hines. For the game, Cwalinski was 18 of 25 for 278 yards. He was intercepted twice.

Dayton's Carlton McFadgen ran 11 yards for a touchdown to make it 14-6 late in the third quarter. Greg Wimberly's 1-yard run and Godsey's run for a two-point conversion tied it, 14-14, with 8:50 left.

For Robert Morris, freshman Brian Harden carried 17 times for 48 yards.

Dayton had 21 first downs and 305 yards and Robert Morris 16 first downs and 374 yards.

Bucknell 31, Duquesne 28: Bucknell scored a touchdown to tie the score, 28-28, with no time left in the fourth quarter and then kicked a 27-yard field goal in overtime to beat the visiting Dukes. Duquesne quarterback Scott Knapp completed 24 of 36 passes for 348 yards and two scores. Bucknell rushed for 386 yards.

Thiel 7, Geneva 0: Steve Minton scored on a 1-yard run with 57 seconds left in the second quarter for the only touchdown at Geneva's Reeves Field. Thiel quarterback Billy Blankenship completed 18 of 27 passes for 170 yards. Geneva quarterback Justin Sciarro was 17 of 34 for 200 yards.

Saint Francis 38, St. Peter's 3: Todd Harris carried 33 times for 203 yards and had touchdown runs of 28, 19 and 3 yards, and Anthony Doria completed 6 of 12 passes for 63 yards and ran 1 yard for a score to lead the host Red Flash.

Carnegie Mellon 27, Hiram 6: Travis Sivek rushed for 104 yards and scored on a 1-yard run and Robert Gibson ran for 43 yards and two touchdowns for the visiting Tartans.

Tiffin 21, Clarion 13: Eddie Emanuel rushed 29 times for 136 yards for Clarion but it wasn't enough as the Eagles lost at Tiffin.

Edinboro 28, West Chester 14: Trevor Harris passed for 142 yards and threw touchdown passes of 15 and 29 yards to Ryan Valasek, who had seven catches for 83 yards, to give Scott Browning a win in his debut as Edinboro's head coach.

Wesley 41, Waynesburg 14: Chris Warrick passed for 290 yards and five touchdowns as Wesley College, ranked No. 8 in Division III, rolled over the visiting Yellow Jackets. For Waynesburg, Tres Cobb completed 21 of 38 passes for 171 yards and a 10-yard touchdown to Mike Shields. Waynesburg had minus-13 yards rushing.

Charleston 30, Seton Hill 25: Freshman Antwarn Jones carried 30 times for 121 yards and had scoring runs of 2 and 5 yards, but the visiting Griffins (0-2) came up short on their second-half rally after trailing at halftime, 30-9. Seton hill reached the Charleston 5 in the final minute but Roger Matlock's pass was intercepted in the end zone. He completed 14 of 22 for 197 yards as the Griffins dominated the statistics with 22 first downs and 370 yards compared to Charleston's 12 first downs and 206 yards.

Walsh 42, West Liberty State 16: Antwain Reine rushed for 124 yards and scored on runs of 6 and 2 yards as host Walsh, ranked 13th in NAIA, defeated the Hilltoppers. West liberty State's Eddie Hills carried 18 times for 111 yards and Jay Gullion completed 24 of 39 passes for 183 yards and threw a 2-yard touchdown pass to Jarrett Ponder.

Shepherd 14, Shippensburg 0: The visiting Rams (2-0), ranked 15th in Division II, won as All-America safety Dan Peters intercepted three passes. Dervon Wallace ran for 88 yards and scored on a 23-yard run.

Muskingam 45, Bethany 20: Mushingam quarterback Andre Nash completed 17 of 23 passes for 210 yards. He threw for two scores and ran for two others.
