Mount Washington's emerging city park, the Grand View Scenic Byway, is one of eight state byways to receive grants from the U.S. Department of Transportation. It is the only one in southwestern Pennsylvania.
The neighborhood community development corporation will receive $241,000 for interpretive information and signs from a pool of $774,652.
"We're thrilled about it, because we weren't expecting it," said Lynne Squilla, board president of the CDC.
The money will pay for information kiosks, signs, historical notes, and text panels "so people will have an index of what they're looking at," said Greg Panza, the CDC staffer who wrote for the grant.
Earlier this year, in two separate grants, The Heinz Endowments contributed a total of $200,000 toward the development of what planners expect will be the city's fifth great park.
