Two men on a coffee break sacked a suspected bank robber in Squirrel Hill today.

The two men, Chris Duggan and Dwain Southerland, had been sipping coffee at the outside cafe of Coffee Tree Roasters when a strange looking character walked by. It was a man dressed like a woman with a wig, makeup, pantyhose and a dress.

Mr. Southerland, 38, of Squirrel Hill, quipped to his friend, "I hope he's not going to rob a bank," as the two men had a laugh.

Within minutes, the Fifth Third Bank branch in the 5800 block of Forbes Avenue was robbed and the two men saw the cross0dresser walking past the coffee shop again.

Someone ran behind the suspect, yelling, "Stop him! He just robbed the bank!"

The two coffee drinkers, who had just completed a workout at the Iron Works gym on the South Side, sprung into action.

They chased the suspected robber down an alley, tackling him and sending cash flying as the suspect fumbled his bundle.

The suspect, who is about 6 feet tall, fought back. He said, "Let me go," said Mr. Duggan, 45, of Highland Park.

The two pinned the suspect. Then Mr. Duggan said he ran back onto Forbes Avenue to summon police from the Zone 4 station in Squirrel Hill who already were at the scene.

The officers quickly took charge of the suspect and the evidence.

The suspect's name was not released yet.

The suspect, identified as Chris Hoffman, 28, of Hazelwood, was awaiting arraignment this afternoon on charges of robbery and resisting arrest.
