MONDAY

GARFIELD: A social gathering at the Thomas Merton Center, 5125 Penn Ave., features a presentation from 5 to 7 p.m. by representatives of the center's Food Not Bombs project, which provides food to the homeless. For details, call Mary Ruth at 412-795-7078.

TUESDAY

NORTH SIDE: A Pup-Peroni Pup Rally for dogs and their owners runs from 5 to 7 p.m. on Federal Street, before the 7:05 Pirates game at PNC Park. The free festival, sponsored by Pup-Peroni Dog Snacks, includes auditions for the CBS "Late Show" "Stupid Pet Tricks" segment, photos of dogs with Pirates mascots, canine massages and grooming, a pet psychic and psychiatrist, games, prizes and giveaways. THURSDAY

EAST LIBERTY: Pennsylvania Resources Council sponsors a Rain Barrel/Watershed Workshop from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Whole Foods Market, 5880 Centre Ave. Participants learn how to harvest rainwater from their roofs, store it and use it in their landscapes. FRIDAY

OAKLAND: Soldiers & Sailors National Military Museum & Memorial, 4141 Fifth Ave., holds a grand opening from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. for its newest exhibit, "Beyond the Battlefield," which looks at the triumphs and struggles of soldiers who return from war with missing limbs or other life-altering disabilities. It includes a wine and cheese reception. Reservations are needed and admission is $5 per person. For details, call 412-621-4253.
