Gronkowski, a senior, will have a hearing in front of the PIAA Board of Control tomorrow in Mechanicsburg, Pa.

We asked you to tell us why you agree or disagree with the ruling. Here is what you had to say ...

What do you think of the WPIAL's ruling?

Gronkowski transferred from Williamsville North near Buffalo, N.Y., to Woodland Hills Aug. 11, but the WPIAL ruled him ineligible two days ago, saying he transferred for athletic reasons. Gronkowski is ranked by scouting services as one of the top tight ends in the country and has numerous scholarship offers from major colleges.

Any student-athlete who is ruled ineligible at the district level can appeal the decision to the PIAA. The PIAA has overturned some WPIAL rulings.

Woodland Hills coach George Novak yesterday declined comment on the WPIAL's ruling. Novak will accompany Gronkowski and his father, Gordie, to Mechanicsburg for the PIAA hearing.

Farrish update

A preliminary hearing for Woodland Hills senior running back Marcel Farrish was continued yesterday and has been rescheduled for 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at the office of District Justice Scott Schricker. Farrish, 18, is charged in connection with an Aug. 12 incident in North Braddock involving a stolen car and subsequent foot pursuit.

He is free on bond.

Dan Joyce, Farrish's attorney, wouldn't comment on the case.

Novak declined comment on Farrish's case and also his status as a member of the team.

Farrish, is one of the top returning running backs in the WPIAL. He rushed for more than 1,800 yards last season and scored 24 touchdowns.

Woodland Hills' season opener is Sept. 1 at Mt. Lebanon.

DeCiccos everywhere

Dom DeCicco is in his first season as Thomas Jefferson's starting quarterback, but he also will play some at receiver. When DeCicco moves to receiver, his brother, Brock, a sophomore, will play quarterback.

And there's one more DeCicco on Thomas Jefferson's offense. Zach DeCicco, another brother who is a junior, is a full-time receiver.

"We've never played together before this season, so it's kind of nice," Dom DeCicco said.

Tyler Wehner, son of former Pirate and current team broadcaster John Wehner, also is vying for time at quarterback.

Whipple effect

Mark Whipple is the Steelers' quarterbacks coach. Apparently he has taught his son a thing or two about the position.

Spencer Whipple, a senior, has become the No. 1 quarterback at Pine-Richland.

On Comcast

Comcast cable television once again will televise a Friday night WPIAL game and air it the following night on the FYI channel. The games also will be available for "On Demand" the following Monday.

Comcast also will produce two live telecasts this season, which will be seen on PCN.

One of the live telecasts will be Sept. 22 when Central Catholic plays at Woodland Hills. Both figure to be among the top teams in the state. The Blackhawk-Hampton opener Sept. 1 also will be televised live.

Chris Shovlin will be the play-by-play announcer for the games and Guy Junker the color commentator.
