This week's Lipouts: 8/16/06
A topical look at the week in golf
Wednesday, August 16, 2006

Just 10 days after shooting 91 and missing the cut at the Sewickley Invitational, Oakmont's Bob Ford shoots a course-record 62 and wins the Tri-State PGA Senior Championship at Quicksilver: The only golfers who shave off more strokes in a week use an eraser.

U.S. Ryder Cup captain Tom Lehman loses in a playoff at the International, depriving him of moving into seventh place in the U.S. Ryder Cup standings one week before the team is selected: The last coach to play for himself in such a big event was, well, Bill Russell.

Paula Creamer, who wears pink clothes and uses pink clubs and balls, wears an all-black outfit at the Women's British Open, replete with black socks and shoes: It was the most shocking fashion transformation since Olivia Newton John in "Grease."

Dean Wilson makes a 6-foot birdie on the second extra hole and wins the International, his first victory on the PGA Tour: At least now he becomes more than the answer to the trivia question, "Who was one of Annika Sorenstam's playing partners when she played at the Colonial?"

Colin Montgomerie of Scotland designs a course in his native country with an extra hole: He could have used it at Winged Foot.
