Birdies: Paul McGinley of Ireland decided to withdraw from the PGA Championship after he learned of the death of Darren Clarke's wife, Heather, who had cancer. It was a heartfelt and selfless gesture by McGinley, whose decision could cost him a spot on the European Ryder Cup team because he currently holds the 10th and final qualifying spot with three events remaining.
Bogeys: Paul Azinger withdrew from the U.S. Bank Championship in Milwaukee a couple of weeks ago because he learned his father was ill and needed surgery. That same week, he showed up as one of the celebrities competing at the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas. Azinger said his father's surgery was postponed so he headed to Las Vegas. Perhaps he already was practicing the art of the bluff.
