The loss of Oklahoma quarterback Rhett Bomar will sting the Sooners in two areas: as part of a potential NCAA investigation and, of course, on the field.
Although the school says it didn't know the specifics of Bomar and guard J.D. Quinn's jobs with a Norman, Okla., car dealership, an NCAA source says that won't stop the sport's governing body from investigating.
It also doesn't help that running back Adrian Peterson purchased a car this spring from the same dealership, drove it for a few weeks and returned it. Oklahoma officials have cleared Peterson, but there are questions as to whether Peterson's "deal" was given to any other customer -- or any other student at the school.
Kansas State
Former starting quarterback Allan Evridge has decided to transfer from Kansas State less than a week into fall practice.
Evridge is the third Wildcats quarterback to depart Manhattan since the spring game in April.
Evridge played in nine games as a redshirt freshman last season -- starting six -- and threw for a Kansas State freshman record 1,365 yards and six touchdowns. Against Texas A&M, he completed 23 of 44 passes for 357 yards and three touchdowns.
In April, redshirt freshman Kevin Lopina announced he was transferring, eventually settling on Washington State. Then a month ago, senior Allen Webb -- who split time as the starter with Evridge last season -- announced he was transferring to Texas College, an NAIA school in Tyler, Texas.
Harvard
Quarterback Liam O'Hagan has been suspended for five games for violating team rules. O'Hagan is the second Harvard player suspended this summer. Linebacker and captain Matt Thomas was suspended indefinitely a month ago after allegedly assaulting his girlfriend.
Southern California
Receiver Dwayne Jarrett will not miss a game for failing to pay full rent on an apartment he shared with Matt Leinart after the NCAA reinstated the All-American's eligibility. Jarrett was declared ineligible earlier this summer when the NCAA determined he received an extra benefit because Leinart's father paid the balance of the rent on an apartment that cost $3,866 a month.
