Hot rodding anyone?
If you don't mind doing it on a small scale -- and I mean really small -- I've got just the ride for you.
It's the 1970 Chevelle Malibu SS "Restomod" coupe built by master model builder GMP Diecast.
Decked out in a shade of dark green that was quite popular for Chevrolet, it's built with four mag wheels, dual chrome exhaust pipes that look absolutely lethal and, of course, the 454-cubic-inch V-8 that struck terror in plenty of hearts back then -- and still does.
If you're wondering what "Restomod" is, this craze involves modernizing cars with some up-to-date equipment, along with freshening up the look with accessory wheels and other items.
Still the emphasis is on maintaining the car pretty much as it appeared coming off the assembly line -- doing too much modification is frowned upon, hence, the name "Restomod."
What's really cool is that this particular Malibu comes with a bench seat -- a rarity in the model car world and a rare occurrence for SS models.
Looking underneath the car, you can spot some authentic handiwork. The exhaust pipes have the wrinkles in them that were factory stock, and you can see brake and fuel lines, a big thick stabilizer bar and other accessories. The engine is fully plumbed and wired, and the air cleaner has a custom red air filter installed.
The only drawback on the model was that the hinges on the hood are stiff -- so stiff in fact that the hood is hard to open.
The Chevelle is priced at $119.95. Information is available at www.gmpdiecast.com.
