The Post-Gazette reviews movies from a family perspective:
'World Trade Center'
Rated: PG-13.
Suitable for: Teens and older moviegoers.
What you should know: Director Oliver Stone checks his politics at the door and dramatizes the events of 9/11, focusing on two real-life Port Authority Police officers who were rescued after being trapped for hours under the World Trade Center rubble. The movie stars Nicolas Cage, Michael Pena, Maria Bello and Maggie Gyllenhaal.
Language: One use of the f-word and a handful of milder words.
Sexual situations and nudity: Married couples cuddling in bed.
Violence/scary situations: This is where the movie earns its rating. The events of Sept. 11, 2001, are re-created, and the two main characters are trapped under concrete slabs and twisted metal for much of the movie with one in excruciating pain. We see bloodied survivors, someone who jumps or falls from the Twin Towers and one officer who dies on screen. Actual news reports from 9/11 are replayed and anxious families are shown at home or in hospital hallways.
Drug and alcohol use: Nothing notable.
