A meeting to discuss creating a riverfront park and obtaining multi-municipal grants for Moon, Coraopolis and Robinson will take place at 7 p.m. Aug. 14 in the meeting room of the Coraopolis municipal building.
Coraopolis and Moon initiated the discussion about obtaining grants from the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. Robinson, which also has land along the Ohio River, was invited to join the discussion.
Robinson Manager Rich Charnovich said neither he nor any commissioners would be able to attend because that's the night of the township's monthly meeting. He said representatives of Robinson's Parks Board may attend.
Kathy Frankel, representing the state, said she would not attend this meeting. She said that it is a preliminary discussion for the boards to determine what they would like to seek grants for.
She said after that has been determined, she would attend the subsequent meetings. Ms. Frankel said she met with Mr. Charnovich in February to discuss the potential for land acquisition along the river.
Mr. Cellante said this initial meeting is intended to open the lines of communication and create a cooperative effort among the municipalities. He said the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources is more willing to give grants to multi-municipal projects.
Moon Manager Greg Smith said there has been some discussion about creating riverfront trails and extending the Montour Trail to the north shore of the Ohio River.
