Lebanese food will help raise money for humanitarian aid in Lebanon when Our Lady of Victory Maronite Church in Scott holds a dinner on Aug. 12.
The dinner will be held after the 4 p.m. Divine Liturgy, which will be led by Bishop Gregory John Mansour of the Eparchy of St. Maron of Brooklyn.
Diners can pay as much as they like for a spread including grape leaves, stuffed cabbage, baked and raw kibbeh, green beans in sauce, rice, hummus and salad.
Proceeds will be combined with previous donations and be sent to Lebanon for nondenominational aid. The Rev. James Root urges large groups to call ahead at 412-278-0841. The church is at 1000 Lindsay Road.
On Aug. 12-13, Our Lady of Lebanon Church in Wheeling, celebrating its 100th anniversary, will hold its Mahrajan, or Lebanese-American Heritage Festival. Funds will be used to upgrade the church and social hall, at 2216 Eoff St. Maronite Catholic communities celebrate the Mahrajan in recognition of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mother feast day Aug. 15 (though Our Lady of Victory held its Mahrajan in June). The feast will be celebrated Aug. 13-15 at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Lebanon in North Jackson, Ohio, with foods cooked by the ladies of St. John the Baptist Maronite Church in New Castle, Lawrence County (www.ourladyoflebanonshrine.org or 330-538-3351).
