Just because MTV is in denial about turning 25, it doesn't mean its sister channel can't celebrate. The party will be on VH1 Classic (Channel 143 on Comcast digital cable), which will air the entire first day of MTV programming beginning at 6 a.m. tomorrow and again at 9 a.m. Saturday.

MTV -- Music Television -- was launched on Aug. 1, 1981, with the words, "Ladies and gentlemen, rock and roll." John Lack's intro was followed by the Buggles' "Video Killed the Radio Star," and music videos were launched on the small screen -- along with VJs, who served as hosts.

By 1986, the mostly music MTV's ratings were in decline, and it began to diversify both musically and with programming such as the animated "Beavis and Butt-Head" and reruns of "Speed Racer." The video format hasn't been abandoned by MTV -- some displaced musical content has landed on channels such as VH1 (which has plenty of other reality programming as well) and VH1 Classics, both owned by MTV.

VH1 Classic's all-day celebration will have archival footage that includes the ad campaign, "I want my MTV" and the network's original VJs -- Alan Hunter, Martha Quinn, JJ Jackson, Nina Blackwood and Mark Goodman.
