Right winger Colby Armstrong, who became a fixture on the Penguins' top line alongside Sidney Crosby, agreed to the team's qualifying offer to re-sign for 2006-07. He had been a restricted free agent.
Armstrong, 23, was promoted from the minor leagues in December. In 47 games with the Penguins his rookie season, he had 16 goals, 24 assists for 40 points and led the team with a plus-15 rating.
The two-way contract will pay him just under $817,000 for 2006-07, unless he is demoted to the minor leagues, in which case that drops to $75,000.
Armstrong was the Penguins' first-round draft pick in 2001.
