Astros 7, Cubs 2: Andy Pettitte pitched six effective innings, Mike Lamb drove in three runs and Houston scored two runs on a wild pitch by Mark Prior in the win against visiting Chicago. Pettitte (7-9) allowed seven hits, but only one run, and struck out three to earn his first win since he beat the Cubs on June 13. Houston relievers Dan Wheeler and Brad Lidge pitched the final three innings to secure the Astros' fourth consecutive victory, their longest winning streak since mid-June.
Brewers 5, Reds 2: Doug Davis pitched into the ninth inning and Corey Koskie hit a two-run homer as Milwaukee beat visiting Cincinnati. Davis (5-5) allowed two runs and six hits in 82/3 innings. He struck out six and walked three. It was the fourth consecutive loss for Cincinnati, including the first two of its three-game series at Milwaukee.
Nationals 6, Marlins 4: Ryan Zimmerman hit a winning three-run homer with two outs in the ninth to lift host Washington past Florida. It was Zimmerman's second winning homer in less than three weeks. Chad Cordero (4-3) pitched 11/3 innings for the win.
Phillies 6, Padres 5: Aaron Rowand doubled in Ryan Howard in the ninth inning and host Philadelphia continued its dominance against San Diego. The Phillies, who have won two in a row for the first time since June 18-19, have beaten San Diego 11 times in a row dating to 2004.

Indians 19, Yankees 1: Victor Martinez went 5 for 6 and Jhonny Peralta and Travis Hafner each hit two of Cleveland's six home runs, powering the Indians to a rout of visiting New York to spoil Yankees owner George Steinbrenner's 76th birthday. The win was Cleveland's largest at home in more than 56 years, since a 21-2 victory against the Philadelphia Athletics on June 18, 1950.
Devil Rays 9, Red Sox 6: Ty Wigginton homered for the third time in two games, connecting against Curt Schilling to snap a seventh-inning tie and help host Tampa Bay beat Boston. Julio Lugo and Jonny Gomes also went deep for Tampa Bay. Wigginton's first-pitch homer leading off the seventh ended a personal five-game winning streak for Schilling (10-3).
White Sox 13, Orioles 0: Jose Contreras easily won his 17th consecutive decision and Juan Uribe hit a three-run homer and drove in five runs to help host Chicago beat Baltimore. Contreras was 5-0 in his first six starts with a 1.41 ERA, but struggled since returning from the disabled list with a pinched nerve in his right hip.
Angels 14, Mariners 6: Juan Rivera homered twice as visiting Los Angeles battered Seattle's bullpen for the win. Rivera hit a solo homer leading off the fifth and then hit a three-run shot on an 0-1 pitch from reliever Rafael Soriano down the right-field and just inside the foul pole in the ninth.
Athletics 2, Tigers 1: Jay Payton lined a single to right with two outs in the 10th inning to drive home Bobby Crosby with the winning run, leading Oakland past visiting Detroit. Tigers starter Justin Verlander pitched well again but received a no-decision after winning his previous three outings.
