LPGA Tour

Event: U.S. Women's Open.

Where: Newport Country Club, 6,594 yards, par 71, Newport, R.I.

When: Tomorrow-Sunday.

Purse: $3.1 million.

Winner's share: $560,000.

TV: ESPN, 2-6 p.m. tomorrow-Friday; Monday, noon playoff if necessary; WPXI, 3-6 p.m. Saturday-Sunday.

Last year: South Korea's Birdie Kim holed a 30-yard bunker shot on the final hole for an unlikely birdie and a two-stroke victory over teenage amateurs Morgan Pressel and Brittany Lang.

Last week: South Korea's Jeong Jang won the Wegmans LPGA for her second tour title, beating Paraguay's Julieta Granada by a stroke. Jang is the eighth South Korean winner this year.

Notes: Annika Sorenstam, the 1995 and 1996 champion, is winless in eight starts since opening the season with a victory in the MasterCard Classic. Last year, she won six of her first nine starts and finished with 10 victories in 20 tournaments. ... Michelle Wie received a special exemption into the tournament. ... Karrie Webb won the first major of the season, the Kraft Nabisco, and lost a playoff to Se Ri Pak in the LPGA Championship.

PGA Tour

Event: Buick Championship.

Where: TPC at River Highlands, 6,820 yards, par 70, Cromwell, Conn.

When: Tomorrow-Sunday.

Purse: $4.4 million.

Winner's share: $792,000.

TV: USA, 4-6 p.m. tomorrow-Friday; KDKA, 3-6 p.m. Saturday-Sunday.

Last year: Brad Faxon won his eighth PGA Tour title, matching the course record with a closing 9-under 61 and beating South Africa's Tjaart van der Walt with a birdie on the first hole of a playoff.

Last week: Ben Curtis won the Booz Allen Classic in the PGA Tour's first Tuesday finish in 26 years.

Notes: The tournament avoided relegation to the secondary "Fall Series" or the Champions Tour in 2007 when 84 Lumber decided to end its event after this season. ... Phil Mickelson, the 2001 and 2002 winner, is skipping the tournament. ... The Western Open is next week in Lemont, Ill., followed by the John Deere Classic in Silvis, Ill.

Champions Tour

Event: Kansas City Classic.

Where: Nicklaus Golf Club at LionsGate, 7,146 yards, par 72, Overland Park, Kan.

When: Friday-Sunday.

Purse: $1.65 million.

Winner's share: $248,000.

TV: The Golf Channel, 5-7:30 p.m., 9:30-11:30 p.m. Friday-Sunday.

Last year: Dana Quigley won the rain-shortened tournament for his 10th Champions Tour title, holing an 11-foot birdie putt to beat Kansas City native Tom Watson and Gil Morgan in a playoff.

Last week: John Harris won the Commerce Bank Championship for his first Champions Tour title, birdieing the first hole of a playoff with Tom Jenkins.

Notes: The U.S. Senior Open is next week at Prairie Dunes in Hutchinson, Kan., followed by the Ford Senior Players Championship in Dearborn, Mich.
