Bedford County boy dies in ATV crash
Monday, June 05, 2006

A 15-year-old boy was killed Saturday afternoon when the all-terrain vehicle he was driving with two other teens aboard missed a curve on a closed road and struck several trees.

The boy, whose name was not released, was pronounced dead at the scene about 6 p.m. by state police from the Bedford barracks.

According to Trooper Kenneth S. Benton, another 15-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl were riding on the 600 CC ATV along Fire Tower Road near the Bedford Reservoir, a utility road that was gated closed.

The trooper said neither excessive speed nor weather was a factor in the accident.

The victim was wearing a helmet. The other male teen was treated and released at UPMC-Bedford, the trooper said.

He said the female passenger, who was not wearing a helmet, was taken to Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh, where she was in stable condition yesterday with head and chest injuries.
