People on the Move

Profile of the Week

Lisa Macioce

•  Job: CFO, Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens

•  Age: 36

•  Ambitions: One of my ambitions was met when I became CFO at Phipps. I was able to bring together my education, experience, and love of horticulture and the environment all at the same time. Eventually I would also like to own my own business.

•  First job: Informally my first job was a baby sitter. Formally, I bagged groceries for Giant Eagle!

•  Hardest job/why?: Definitely working in public accounting. The hours and the travel were the reason it was the hardest time in my career. But it definitely had the biggest pay off since it got me to where I am today.

•  Biggest work challenge ever: I took a new position in an industry that I had no experience in. Within five months of being hired, the supervisor that hired me quit, both of my staff quit, and I was responsible for a process that was new to the organization in many respects. It definitely made me a stronger person and the fact that I maintained my professionalism during the situation helped me to gain the respect of many people.

•  Favorite stock/mutual fund: I am conservative and therefore very diversified, so I can't pick just one.

•  Away from work I: Love to cook, garden, or travel.

•  Dream vacation: Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks. It was one of the most fantastic trips I ever made and I can't wait to return.

•  Favorite book: My childhood favorite, "Anne of Green Gables."

•  If I won the Lottery: After putting enough aside for my family, I'd become a philanthropist. I see so many great nonprofit organizations struggling to make it in today's climate and to be able to give money to places where it's really needed would be a great feeling.
