MLB Notebook: Indians' Sauerbeck runs, but can't hide from police

Indians pitcher Scott Sauerbeck apologized yesterday to his family and teammates following his early morning arrest in a Cleveland suburb. Sauerbeck, a former Pirates reliever, and a woman were taken into custody after fleeing his vehicle and were found hiding behind bushes. Sauerbeck, who is married, was the passenger in his 1966 Lincoln Continental convertible, which a patrolman observed weaving at 3:45 a.m. He was charged with obstructing official business and permitting someone intoxicated to drive his vehicle.

Astros

Roger Clemens will take the mound once again for the Astros, according to a Newsday report. The seven-time Cy Young Award winner, who could be pitching in the major leagues by the end of June, will earn somewhere between $3.5 million and $4 million per month, netting him roughly $12 million for about a half-season's work. An announcement will likely come this week.

Dodgers

Closer Eric Gagne was activated but he began serving a two-game suspension and will not join the team until tomorrow. Gagne was serving a suspension imposed by Major League Baseball on April 29, 2005, for violating the terms of a previous penalty.

Elsewhere

Cincinnati acquired right-hander Esteban Yan from the Angels for minor-league pitcher Kyle Edens. ... Seattle released Matt Lawton, 10 days after they designated the outfielder for assignment. ... Top Mets outfield prospect Lastings Milledge was called up by New York after starting right fielder Xavier Nady was placed on the disabled list [appendectomy]. ... Pitcher Chris Carpenter was placed on the 15-day DL by the Cardinals with bursitis under his right shoulder blade.
